Proper Paint Preparation 3
Resene Automotive and Light Industrial hosted the highly anticipated Caddie reveal at the DuPont Refinish Training Centre in Mt Wellington on a grey July Saturday.
Todd and Kym's 1956 Cadillac Coupe was painted from the metal up in almost 6months - an amazing feat in itself. To understand that Todd project managed this between all the different suppliers, co-ordinating delivery of the car and spending countless evenings and weekend hours doing so much of the leg work himself, you begun to realise that this was a really special project. As everyone was drawn into the story and followed the progress with keen interest, the story spread as everyone wanted to know "what colour it is?"
The Caddie was to be painted a very specific colour which Kym and Todd researched while on their American trip last year. Explaining this "rough idea" to Andrew Town, RALI Colour Matcher proved how vast the colour spectrum is and how involved colour can get. Andie's custom colour created in DuPont Centari, dubbed "Boogie Blue" would be offset with a metal flake for the roof. Other details revealed were the re-chromed detailing, the lovely white leather interior and the tool box built into the boot.
Almost 100 people turned up to see Necessary Evil as it had been christened. Todd had invited some of his friends with custom cars including Patrick from BOSS Panelbeaters in Penrose who showed off his 1967 Chevelle.
American Hot Dogs were served up with a special order of Caddie Crush lemonade. A great day out for everyone, and happy car owners preparing last details for their showing at the CRC Speed Show a week later.
